We are excited to announce a an event at which the future plans for Leigh Spinners will be revealed.
13th April 2016, at 6:30pm, at Bedford High School, Manchester Road, Leigh
(Use “Main Entrance” off A572, for the Upper School Hall)
Three previous public engagement events were held in 2014, with a total attendance in excess of 400 people. Many uses for the site were suggested – there was great enthusiasm for the preservation of the building as a reminder of Leigh’s role in the industrial revolution, and the inclusion of heritage displays related to the town and the cotton industry. There were other suggested uses for commercial activity, sports, community, youth and education facilities.
These ideas were built into the plans, along with the views of potential stakeholders and funders, and we can now show these plans, which provide a road map for the future of this unique and important site.
We still want Your Views
As a community based organisation the Trust is now seeking the support, of the local community and key stakeholders, on how the mill should be developed and used.
We are still keen to know your thoughts on:
We are now at a point, where Expressions of Interest, for organisations to use parts of the mill; are now being taken. Please send all such requests to our mailbox
With regard to uses, a range of possible uses have already been suggested through our Friends of Leigh Spinners Facebook page. The current priorities are Heritage, Café, Youth Activities, Business Accommodation. You are welcome to support these or to suggest new possibilities. It is important to recognise, that whilst individual uses need not be profitable, we will need to ensure that the project develops sufficient income to be able to meet its costs.
